- ST. HELEN'S SOFTWARE ANNOUNCES ALIASWORLD(tm) 1.0 FOR
- NEXTSTEP
-
- New software is the first end-user application for managing
- e-mail aliases on a NEXTSTEP network
-
- JULY 21, 1995 -- REDWOOD CITY, CA -- St. Helen's Software
- today announced general availability of AliasWorld(tm), a
- powerful, yet simple-to-use, end-user application for
- managing the creation, ownership, and maintenance of e-mail
- aliases on NEXTSTEP networks. AliasWorld saves MIS
- organizations time by freeing system and network
- administrators from the burden of managing e-mail aliases.
-
- Previously, system and network administrators were required
- to edit e-mail aliases using NeXT's NetInfoManager, flat
- files, and command-line tools -- none of which is designed
- for alias management. AliasWorld, specifically designed to
- manage e-mail aliases, addresses this problem. Further,
- traditional tools such as NetInfoManager do not encourage
- the creation of e-mail aliases, while AliasWorld does. As
- a result, AliasWorld fosters greater communication by
- allowing users to use e-mail to communicate effectively with
- dynamic workgroups.
-
- Administrators have also had to worry about how to keep
- their alias databases consistent. AliasWorld automatically
- enforces consistency throughout the alias database.
-
- In addition, AliasWorld frees the administrators from a
- variety of other tasks, including handling requests from
- users to create new aliases, make changes to existing
- aliases, or change the ownership of aliases. Other
- AliasWorld features:
-
- - Provides a powerful yet simple user interface for creating
- and editing aliases.
- - Puts the administration of aliases into users' hands,
- easing the burden of system and network administrators.
- - Allows users to create public lists of addresses that any
- user may use. (This is contrasted with PrivateGroups in
- - NeXT's Mail.app that only allows users to send e-mail to
- aliases they create.)
- - Allows users to add, delete, and make changes to members
- of public aliases.
- - Allows aliases to be co-owned (and therefore maintained)
- by more than one user.
- - Provides all the tools necessary for basic management:
- users know which aliases they own and must maintain, and
- users can find out to which aliases they belong.
- -Keeps users from accidentally breaking aliases when users
- delete aliases. As a result, alias databases remain
- consistent.
-
- Pricing and availability
- AliasWorld 1.0 is available now for NEXTSTEP running on Sun
- SPARC, Intel 486 and Pentium, HP PA-RISC, and NeXT
- computers. AliasWorld requires the NEXTSTEP Foundation
- runtime libraries found in NEXTSTEP 3.3 or Enterprise
- Objects Framework. AliasWorld is priced at $199 per user,
- and quantity and site-licensing pricing are available.
