  19. New software is the first end-user application for managing
  20. e-mail aliases on a NEXTSTEP network
  21.  
  22. JULY 21, 1995 -- REDWOOD CITY, CA -- St. Helen's Software
  23. today announced general availability of AliasWorld(tm), a
  24. powerful, yet simple-to-use, end-user application for
  25. managing the creation, ownership, and maintenance of e-mail
  26. aliases on NEXTSTEP networks.  AliasWorld saves MIS
  27. organizations time by freeing system and network
  28. administrators from the burden of managing e-mail aliases.

  30. Previously, system and network administrators were required
  31. to edit e-mail aliases using NeXT's NetInfoManager, flat
  32. files, and command-line tools -- none of which is designed
  33. for alias management.  AliasWorld, specifically designed to
  34. manage e-mail aliases, addresses this problem.  Further,
  35. traditional tools such as NetInfoManager do not encourage
  36. the creation of e-mail aliases, while AliasWorld does.  As
  37. a result, AliasWorld fosters greater communication by
  38. allowing users to use e-mail to communicate effectively with
  39. dynamic workgroups.

  41. Administrators have also had to worry about how to keep
  42. their alias databases consistent.  AliasWorld automatically
  43. enforces consistency throughout the alias database.

  45. In addition, AliasWorld frees the administrators from a
  46. variety of other tasks, including handling requests from
  47. users to create new aliases, make changes to existing
  48. aliases, or change the ownership of aliases.  Other
  49. AliasWorld features:

  51. - Provides a powerful yet simple user interface for creating
  52. and editing aliases.
  53. - Puts the administration of aliases into users' hands,
  54. easing the burden of system and network administrators.
  55. - Allows users to create public lists of addresses that any
  56. user may use.  (This is contrasted with PrivateGroups in
  57. - NeXT's Mail.app that only allows users to send e-mail to
  58. aliases they create.)
  59. - Allows users to add, delete, and make changes to members
  60. of public aliases.
  61. - Allows aliases to be co-owned (and therefore maintained)
  62. by more than one user.
  63. - Provides all the tools necessary for basic management:
  64. users know which aliases they own and must maintain, and
  65. users can find out to which aliases they belong.
  66. -Keeps users from accidentally breaking aliases when users
  67. delete aliases.  As a result, alias databases remain
  68. consistent.

  71. AliasWorld 1.0 is available now for NEXTSTEP running on Sun
  72. SPARC, Intel 486 and Pentium, HP PA-RISC, and NeXT
  73. computers.  AliasWorld requires the NEXTSTEP Foundation
  74. runtime libraries found in NEXTSTEP 3.3 or Enterprise
  75. Objects Framework.  AliasWorld is priced at $199 per user,
  76. and quantity and site-licensing pricing are available.
